The MIDI File Player
Most computers have a built in program for playing MIDI files.  For Windows, it's called Windows Media Player.
One disadvantage of Windows Media Player, however, is it that it does not allow you to speed up or slow down the backing tracks.
The program supplied on this site with most of my publications is the Van Basco Karaoke Player, which gives you a control for adjusting the speed of your MIDI files.
What's a MIDI file?
A MIDI file is a computerized recording of a piece of music. It contains a list of instructions that tell your computer to generate sound through its soundcard. You can find MIDI files of almost any piece or song you've ever heard through Google. You can't play back a MIDI file on your home stereo; they will only work on your computer.
What's an MP3?
An MP3 is an audio file similar to a CD track. You can play MP3s on your computer through its soundcard and speakers. Some home and car stereos will play MP3 files when you burn them onto a CD. You can also convert an MP3 file into a CD file and burn a CD that will play in any CD player.
